What a great start to our cycling season. There have been chilly mornings, some wind challenges but nothing could dampen our excitement of being back together. We witnessed the excitement of our cycling sisters reconnecting and we also had the anticipation and fun of welcoming new cyclists to the “sisterhood”.
Our first rides are always slow and easy; everyone finds their cycling legs, and we all focus on the fundamentals of group riding. Before every ride we have a safety review; what are the arm/hand and verbal signals that the Ride Leader will use, and all the other basic safety skills/tips needed for a safe ride. For our new riders this is their first introduction to group riding, so everyone makes sure they get lots of encouragement and support.
One of the things all our Ride Leaders and Sweeps have shared over the last couple of weeks is how wonderful it was to hear all the talk and laughter on the group rides. The joy that cycling together brings to everyone; the sense of connection and community.
There are lots of rides planned for the season and some fun events too but there is something special about those first few rides. The pictures speak for themselves!
